The world-famous Deuter company has been manufacturing various types of equipment for over 115 years.
The brand has long been synonymous with quality, trusted by military personnel, professional climbers, skiers and experienced travellers. Deuter's values include creating only high-quality outdoor products, involving professional athletes in the development of new products, and a love of what you do. Hundreds of specialists work on the design of new models, using all the achievements of science in this area, each Deuter backpack is a masterpiece of engineering.
1898 - the company is founded by Hans Doyter in Augsburg-Oberhausen, the first major customer - the Bavarian Royal Mail ordered a large batch of mail bags and postman's bags.
1905 - the company begins production of sails, linen, sacking, horse and car covers, and a separate division for the production and rental of tents is established.
1910 - expansion of the clientele, production of backpacks, belts, and large tents, which were in great demand, especially among the military.
1919 - the start of production of suitcases, backpacks, tents and truck awnings. The Deuter-Zelthallen tent hall is exhibited for the first time at the Oktoberfest. The company takes the name of its owner Hans Deuter.
1928 - Deuter provides rucksacks, bags, capes and tents for expeditions to the most remote corners of the Pamirs organised by guide Willi Rickmer, developed in close cooperation with leading mountaineers.
1934 - the development of the legendary Tauern backpack, which became popular after the German expedition to Nanga Parbat, Tauern became the best known backpack, the name of this model was popular for 30 years.
1938 - the legendary first ascent of the North Face of Eiger Peak by Andreas Heckmeyer. he and his fellow climbers Ludwig Werg, Fritz Kasparek and Heinrich Harrer were carrying Deuter backpacks.
1939 - 1945 - all of Deuter's production facilities are exclusively dedicated to government orders for the German armed forces
1953 - Deuter provides backpacks, bags and tents for the Hermann Bull expedition - the first ascent of Nanga Parbat (8125 m). Some of the Tauern backpacks were made of the new material perlon (a new polyamide synthetic fibre) for the first time. In the following years, Deuter continued to equip numerous expeditions of climbers. Their experience and recommendations had a powerful influence on the development of new products.
1957 - The family business expands and becomes a joint-stock company, Deuter Industriewerke AG-Augsburg.
1962 - the Hallenbau branch becomes an independent company: "Deuter Hallenbau GmbH, Augsburg", one of many expeditions of German mountaineers, reaches the summit of Nanga Parbat after overcoming great difficulties.
1968 - Deuter produces the first collection of backpacks made of innovative nylon, which soon becomes the main material in the production of backpacks.
1971 - Deuter is recognised as a market leader and the leading manufacturer of backpacks, suitcases and bags in Germany.
1972 - Deuter continues to grow steadily, with production and warehouse space reaching 40,600 square metres. For the fourth time, Deuter supplies sports and travel bags to the German Olympic team.
1984 - The first innovative tensioned mesh suspension system, Aircomfort, is developed and patented.
1988 - the beginning of the company's new policy - climbers, mountain guides, bikers are part of the development team and have a direct impact on product quality.
1988 - 1991 - world-famous mountaineer Peter Habeler is accepted as a partner and technical consultant at Deuter, during his expeditions he tests new developments in the most extreme conditions.
1990 - Together with Andy Heckimeyer, Deuter develops a completely new type of backpack - the Airstripes backpack, the first Bike One model is launched.
1994 - To ensure competitive pricing while maintaining the quality, functionality and durability of its products, Deuter moves its main production from Germany and joins forces with the Korean manufacturer Duke. The production is located in Vietnam and becomes a specialised backpacking production facility, which brings together three local factories with 3,500 employees that produce only Deuter products.
1995 - Deuter launches a new product, sleeping bags.
1997 - Deuter begins close cooperation with the German Mountain and Ski Guides Association, whose recommendations are important for product development and improvement.
1999 - The classic Futura backpack is born and becomes incredibly popular, leading to the creation of a whole new class of Aircomfort Futura backpacks.
2001 - Deuter opens a subsidiary company "Deuter USA"
2002 - multifunctional AC-Lite series backpacks with Aircomfort back system are introduced, thanks to their light weight they take the leading position and set new trends in the market.
2004 - the range includes 4-season down sleeping bags and children's models, and sleeping bags become an increasingly important product.
2005 - a new backpack concept with integrated protection certified by the TUV/GS laboratory is developed. The Shell System back ensures the safety of bikers and winter sports enthusiasts.
The Attack cycling backpack receives a gold award for innovation at the Eurobike world exhibition.
2006 - special SL models for women are developed, optimised for female anatomy by a team of female athletes led by one of the strongest climbers of our time, Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner, who contributed her experience of climbing all 14 of the world's eight-thousanders to the development.
2009 - the EL line of backpacks with a 6-9 cm longer back is launched for taller people. Spectro - Deuter introduces a lightweight backpack with the new Aircomfort Flexlite suspension system.
2010 - Exosphere and Neosphere sleeping bags are launched. With their innovative design and high level of comfort, the elasticated sleeping bags had a huge impact on the entire market.
2013 - Since moving to Gersthofen in 1997, Deuter has grown by 800%. Due to the growth of the team, a decision was made to build a new modern building, using a well-thought-out geometric shape, the latest achievements in engineering and conserving resource-efficient technology using geothermal energy. All this will reduce the building's impact on the environment.
Today, the Deuter brand is known all over the world.
