New Zealand-based Icebreaker is a leader in the natural functional clothing market, specialising in thermal underwear made from Merino wool. In 1994, founder Jeremy Moon found a material that brought the properties of technological underwear one step closer to the ideal. It turned out to be merino wool, a special breed of sheep that has perfectly adapted to life in the highlands of the New Zealand Southern Alps. At the age of 24, he raised $200,000 from friends, his parents and their friends to start an outdoor clothing company.
Icebreaker has established a whole new trend in the technology clothing industry that breaks stereotypes. In the age of synthetics, they successfully found something that was ‘made in the mountains, not in a petrochemical laboratory’ and made a breakthrough in the production of thermal underwear.
