Ice axe Petzl Summit
Petzl Summit is a classic ice axe for mountaineering.
Offers an excellent balance between price and performance.
Lightweight and provides good fixation of both the head and the spike.
Curved to provide the necessary clearance for steep ice.
The Petzl Summit can be used in the following modes:
- "piolet-canne": a basic technique for using an ice axe in mountaineering, when a person holds the tool by the head and uses the handle (handle) as a cane or trekking pole, this is the main way of moving when climbing or walking on relatively gentle snow and ice slopes (up to 30° - 40° steepness);
- "ice axe ramp": a classic mountaineering descent technique where the ice axe is used as an additional support point (as a "handrail" or "railing") on steep snow and ice slopes (from 40° to 60°);
- "ice axe traction" on short steep sections: this is an ice climbing and mountaineering technique where you use two technical ice axes to traverse steep ice slopes, cascades and mixed routes (angles from 50° to 115°).
Features of the Petzl Summit:
A lightweight ice axe, but with enough weight in the head for good grip.
Ergonomics of the shaft:
- The upper part of the shaft is curved to provide good clearance when climbing;
- The lower part is straighter and guarantees effective penetration into the snow.
Pick and adze in hot-forged steel, ensuring solid anchoring:
- The peak is thin (3 mm) and serrated at the tip, providing good hold in hard snow and ice;
- Strong stainless steel spike for good penetration in hard snow and in piolet-kanne mode;
- The teeth on the upper part of the peak enhance the ice axe's hold in piolet-ramp mode;
- The peak is thicker in the middle, which helps to secure in soft snow.
High strength and practical aspects:
- The strong steel adze provides a comfortable support surface;
- Тhe design of edges allows you to effectively cut stairs;
- The inclined adze correctly directs the axe into the snow (using piolet-kanne);
- The head and spike are equipped with holes for attaching a carabiner or sling;
- Shaft made of high-quality aircraft aluminum (7075);
- Handle carved into a chisel for better grip.
