Ice axe Petzl Summit® EVO
Petzl Summit® EVO is a technically efficient ice axe for classic mountaineering.
Lightweight and with a hydro-jetted tube, it provides a very comfortable grip.
The curved shaft design provides the necessary clearance on steep, icy terrain.
The forged and well-balanced head provides very good holding qualities.
Curved to provide the necessary clearance for steep ice.
The Petzl Summit® EVO can be used in different modes:
- "piolet-canne": the basic technique of using an ice axe in mountaineering, when the person holds the tool by the head and uses the handle (handle) like a cane or trekking pole, this is the main way of moving when climbing or walking on relatively gentle snow and ice slopes (up to 30° - 40° steepness);
- "ice axe ramp": a classic mountaineering descent technique where an ice axe is used as an additional support point (as a "handrail" or "railing") on steep snow and ice slopes (40° to 60°);
- "ice axe traction" on short steep sections: this is an ice climbing and mountaineering technique where you use two technical ice axes to traverse steep ice slopes, cascades and mixed routes (angles from 50° to 115°).
Features of the Petzl Summit® EVO:
A lightweight ice axe, but with enough weight in the head for good grip.
Hydroformed handle for good grip on the bend and technical design:
- The upper part of the shaft is curved to provide good clearance during climbing;
- The lower part is straighter and guarantees effective penetration into the snow.
The head and blade are made of hot-forged steel, which ensures reliable fixation:
- Thin (3 mm) blade, strong and serrated at the tip, which ensures good fixation quality in hard snow and ice;
- The blade is thicker in the middle, which helps fixation in soft snow;
- Teeth on the upper part of the blade enhance the ice axe's hold in ice axe-ramp mode;
- Strong stainless steel spike for very good penetration into hard snow and ice axe-canne mode.
High strength and practicality:
- The strong steel adze provides a comfortable support surface;
- The design of the adze edges allows for effective cutting of stairs;
- The inclined adze guides the ice auger correctly into the snow (in piolet-canne mode);
- The head and spike are equipped with holes for attaching a carabiner or sling;
- The shaft is made of high-quality aircraft aluminum (7075);
- The shaft is cut into the adze for better grip.
The Petzl Summit® EVO is compatible with the Petzl Linkin lanyard (U082AA00).
