MANUFACTURER
Black Diamond
Black Diamond is a world-famous manufacturer of equipment for mountaineering, skiing and mountain sports, based in Utah, USA, and also has an office in Innsbruck, Austria. Black Diamond is owned by Clarus Corporation, which also owns Pieps and Sierra Bullets.
The history of Black Diamond goes back to 1957 - a young climber and surfer Yvon Chouinard buys a used blacksmith's horn, a 138-pound anvil and a hammer. In his improvised forge, he begins to manually forge rock hooks, which he later sells directly from the trunk of his car, providing himself with a livelihood.
Now Black Diamond Equipment is a huge company with a turnover of 200 million dollars a year, headquartered on three continents (USA, Switzerland and China), including several reputable brands (Bibler Tent, Pieps, POC, Gregory), which are still headed by young enthusiasts of their business, continuing to raise the bar of comfort and safety while relaxing in the mountains.
Black Diamond is a great example of a socially responsible business - the company sponsors many non-profit organizations that somehow support mountain sports - American Alpine Club, The Access Fund, etc.
