Materials
Merino Wool
Merino wool is considered one of the most expensive types of wool.
It is thinner than the wool of other sheep breeds - for the manufacture of yarn, merino wool is sheared only from the withers, it is in the withers that sheep have special fine fleece with a thickness of less than 23 microns.
It has a unique degree of softness and elasticity, as it is 3 times softer than natural silk and 5 times more elastic than cotton.
Soft, airy, warm, and of extraordinary beauty, it has no equal in the world of natural materials.
Merino wool is perhaps the only natural material that still cannot be reproduced using synthetic materials.
Properties of merino wool:
- High medicinal properties - wool softens and soothes acute pain, treats arthritis, rheumatism, sciatica, helps with fractures, in the care of patients with bedsores, and also promotes rapid recovery from viral infections that occur in the autumn and winter.
- Antibacterial properties - creatine contained in merino wool is an unfavourable environment for the development of bacteria and microscopic insects, in addition, a water repellent is formed on the surface of each fibre, which repels insect pests.
- Hypoallergenic - merino wool is not an allergen and contains 8-10% lanolin, which, dissolving at a temperature of 35-37 °C, penetrates the skin and has a beneficial effect on joints, muscles, spine and respiratory system, as well as stimulates blood circulation.
- Excellent calming effect - products made of soft merino wool lull you to sleep better than any sleeping pill.
- Excellent thermal insulation - of all types of sheep's wool, merino wool has the finest hair, which is why merino wool is considered to be the warmest.
- Excellent moisture absorption - merino wool is hygroscopic, meaning it can absorb up to 33% of its own weight in moisture, so any products made from merino wool always remain dry.
- Reliable protection against unpleasant odours.
- Unique self-cleaning effect; from time to time, merino products just need to be aired in wet weather.
- Electrostatic properties.
- Neutralisation of toxic substances.
Nylon
Nylon, or polyamide, is the world's first synthetic fibre.
Its most outstanding feature is its exceptional strength, resistance to abrasion and water and, as a result, high durability, 10 times that of cotton and 20 times that of wool, and it is also stronger than polyester.
In the production of socks, nylon is usually blended with other materials to add strength and elasticity.
Lycra ®
It is very important for socks to be able to take the anatomical shape of any foot size, without forming folds that lead to chafing on the feet.
Lycra is the best elastane yarn on the market, the material of Lorpen socks contains up to 10% stretch nylon with Lycra.
The elasticity of Lorpen socks is provided by stretch nylon, with an inner elastane layer and a nylon coating.
The percentage and quality of stretch nylon determines the high elasticity and durability of the new sock.
That is why Lorpen socks retain their fit even after prolonged use and numerous washes.
